PS4 and Xbox One 'a generation ahead' of high end PCs - EA CTO

4.7
Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are a generation more powerful than today's high-end PCs, according to an Electronic Arts exec.

Writing on LinkedIn, EA chief technology officer Rajat Teneja noted that the horsepower of current high-end PCs will be dwarved by Sony and Microsoft's next-gen consoles.
"Both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have adopted electronics and an integrated systems-on-a-chip (soc) architecture that unleashes magnitudes more compute and graphics power than the current generation of consoles," Teneja wrote.

On the comparison between current and next-gen consoles, Teneja believes the new consoles will perform 8-10 times better than the PS3 and Xbox 360.

"These architectures are a generation ahead of the highest end PC on the market and their unique design of the hardware, the underlying operating system and the live service layer create one of the most compelling platforms to reimagine game mechanics."

Similarly, Avalanche Studios CTO Linus Blomberg said in March that the PlayStation 4's 8gb RAM will ensure it will "out-power most PCs for years to come."

Xbox One was this week unveiled at an event in Washington. Read all about it at our Xbox One information hub.

zredstarv1 This is has to be the dumbest comment of the year in the gaming industry. Since Nvidia announcing their newest GPU the GTX 780 the other day, This comment is obsolete LOL. Seriously, the next gen consoles have 8 core processor clocked at 1.5GHz. Thats no where near on par with AMD flagship model FX-8350 8 core processor clocked at 4.2GHZ. These consoles don't support desktop GPU's they support mobile GPU. I read the new PS4 will feature a Radeon 7870M GPU. The next Gen console are not on the same field as high end desktops, But their on the same field as mid entry gaming laptops. Besides, gamers who build high end destops like me, dont use AMD products. BTW these console's do not have a ssd in them. SSD reduces load times dramatically. Last time I checked, consoles do not support liqiud cooling. This means no over clocking your new Xbox One or PS4. That being said, here's another moron saying another stupid comment to try to boost the sells up. If you try to argue this you are also a moron. You've obviously never built a desktop.

you ever wonder why you need a mid end pc to play this years games but, they are still made on xbox and ported to ps3 and pc. xbox and ps3 have low end specs yet play these newer games. its optimization developers take time to optimize with what they have to make 'em run smoothly. so now they are getting mid-high end specs so that means it will have amazing game engines, 1000 square mile maps and awesome graphics comparable to those who have 2000 dollar gaming machines. so its hard to compare console specs to pc specs, and it may absolutely be possible these "specs" are going to have more advanced graphics and AI then high end computers today.

lol your not getting 1000 square mile maps on console. Those are a joke. These consoles are no where near even low spec computers today. I don't care how much you optimize it, my 5-year old gaming computer will still outperform those 'new' consoles

Lol from EA.

False comment, but at least their trying to "hype up" the next-gen consoles lol.

slapshot101 There is no way, with these specs, these next gen consoles are better then the high end PC's. just take the 8 GB of Memory. 16GB comes standard on any Mac and 8 GB is the absolute lowest of any PC made now.

This is not entirely true. Any 32 bit systems being made will cap at 4gb of RAM.

Nvidia will die out because the architecture on AMD is better

I don't think NVidia is really too worried.

> A Generation ahead
What a joke.

Wagering The Xbox One's footage of Forza 5 looks unbelievable, but then the Call of Duty Ghosts' footage; the rendering looks like something a Playstation TWO would produce...

They are probably going to tweak up the graphics before release date.

You don't "tweak the graphics" on an engine, you do understand that right? You start off building a game on a single engine to work models off of, then you proceed. To "tweak the graphics" on a game, would you mean lighting and other dynamic effects? If so, than I find it hard to believe a CoD would spend more than 10 seconds on dealing with enhancing images unless it's part of a trailer (as shown from their past few titles that looked better in the trailers than the actual gameplay made them appear).
