Popular Steam Wishlist Survival Shooter To Get A New Demo

4.2
Road to Vostok is in the top 10 most wishlisted shooters on Steam, and the developer will drop a new demo tomorrow to showcase how far the game has come.

Surviving is not easy on the remote border between Finland and Russia.

Close your eyes and picture the setting: the smell of birch trees is poisoning the freezing air. Last night's dinner feels like a distant memory, and the silence is punctuated by the threatening drone of helicopter rotors.

Road to Vostok mixes this reality with a trusty but heavy Kalashnikov dangling off your shoulder, well-armed bandits ready to put a hole through your head, and a place where you can only die once.

October 1st will mark the second version of the new Road to Vostok demo. The original one was a sandbox with attractive graphics and great gun mechanics, but tomorrow's version promises to turn that into a real game.

After making your fun for two years, you will finally be able to interact with the task system. In tandem with this is the introduction of the Doctor, a new trader providing both wares and jobs.

If tomorrow will be your first time playing the Road to Vostok demo, the second version should make adapting to the border hellscape easier thanks to starter kits and a more comprehensive tutorial.

Combat promises to feel very different thanks to changes to AI and the introduction of body armor, different ammunition types, and landmines that can be defused or destroyed.

To help play with this, the developers are adding new weapons, scopes, and muzzle devices.

Although it already looked great in the first demo, the update promises upgrades to the border zone, both in terms of visual fidelity and new areas.

The survival part of Road to Vostok should begin to take shape with the new crafting system, the addition of underground elements, new medical items, and more dynamic loot pools based on the location and container type.

As with any update to a game still in development, there are fixes across the board, though bugs are to be expected.

Road to Vostok put out its first Steam demo in 2022 with little more than a shooting range and a barren environment.

This Finnish survival game has quietly made its way to the top 10 most wishlisted shooters on Steam right behind Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and has over 2000 Patreon members.

What was essentially a Unity tech demo became a fully fleshed game, developed almost singlehandedly by a Finnish former Lieutenant.

Besides the seductively ominous setting, Road to Vostok appeals to players because of the transparency.

To illustrate, when the Unity runtime fee debacle hit, the lead developer chose to change to the open-source Godot engine and documented the transition on YouTube.

The frequent updates and previews combined with hands-on demos mean that players know what to expect and what not to as Road to Vostok approaches a release state.

There is no public release date yet, and the developers seem to not be in a rush. If the the Road to Vostok roadmap is anything to go by, early access is not too far away though.

The upcoming Public Demo 2 v2 is the very last step on the roadmap before the early access phase begins. The site says the demo and commercial branches will be ready around Q3 2024, but that is not set in stone.

Download the demo tomorrow, take enough food, water, and 7.62x39mm rounds into an abandoned bunker, and do not forget your guitar.

Samfs I've been following the devlogs on YouTube, and I have to say, this game is looking incredible, especially considering it's being made by just one person (I think).
This game will put triple A titles to shame, really looking forward to this one too.
