Rumor: Days Gone PS5 Remaster Could Be in the Works

4.4
It seems as though a PlayStation 5 remaster of 2019 open world zombie game Days Gone may very well be in the cards. Days Gone launched in 2019 to mixed reviews, which is unusual for a big budget first-party PlayStation game. Despite selling over 7 million units, Sony is apparently not interested in moving forward with a sequel to the game.

Reports have stated that Days Gone sequel ideas were rejected by Sony, with developer Bend Studio now working on a new IP. But while there may not be much hope for Days Gone 2 to ever hit the market, it does seem as though the original game will be getting a second lease on life. That is, if the latest rumors are to be believed, anyway.

The Days Gone remaster rumors started after VGC's Jordan Middler responded to Jeff Grubb's claim that Sony had a PS5 remaster in the works that was even less exciting than the rumored Horizon Zero Dawn. In a tweet, Middler suggested that Days Gone was the remaster in question, suggesting that the game's director would "lose his mind" at the announcement, considering the negative reaction he had to the game's protagonist being represented in Astro Bot.

Astro Bot features well over 100 cameo bots for PlayStation fans to find, with the characters pulled from various gaming franchises. While there are plenty of obscure Astro Bot bots, there are also plenty from big budget games, Days Gone's Deacon St. John included. Days Gone director John Garvin didn't appreciate the Deacon St. John cameo, throwing shade at Astro Bot and dismissing the critically-acclaimed 3D platformer as a "small game" in the process. Considering this, it will be interesting to see what Garvin thinks about the remaster, assuming it even exists, of course.

Luckily, fans shouldn't have to wait too much longer to learn if the Days Gone PS5 remaster is real or not. Both it and the Horizon Zero Dawn PS5 remaster are rumored to be revealed at a new PlayStation State of Play event, believed to be taking place as early as next week to coincide with the 2024 Tokyo Game Show. If the State of Play happens and the Days Gone PS5 remaster is real, it will definitely be interesting to see what exactly it's bringing to the table.

As some may recall, Days Gone got a PS5 update that allows the game to take better advantage of the console's hardware. Of course, this isn't the same as a full-blown remaster, but it does make it less clear exactly what the point of said remaster is. Perhaps it will be used to help showcase the power of the PS5 Pro, or maybe it will utilize the PS5's hardware in ways that the current update fails to do. Regardless, Days Gone fans should wait for an official announcement before getting their hopes up that the game may be making a proper comeback on Sony's latest platform.

Runts I sure hope not this game is a huge let down it's the same boring crap over and over. When I first got psn I wanted to play this so bad and was beyond let down

Hot take as per usual,
Playing through it right now, I think it's a great game with decent story. The game still holds up really well, not once through my play through have I thought it needs a remaster.

We need a BB remaster
