Hall: DayZ console port discussed with Sony; 'wait and see'

4.6
Dean Hall, creator of DayZ, is considering a move to consoles, as long as the PC launch goes well.

"Certainly I think if we don't – for want of a better word – 'fuck up' the PC release, then I would say a console port is almost certain," Hall told The Escapist. "I know a lot of people get really hot and bothered about it. Like, I'm not a console gamer, I'm a PC gamer, but I don't think it necessarily has to hurt things."

Hall has put his thoughts into action already: He met with Sony and people there were into the idea.

"It appears to be the kind of game that Sony are interested in; I think we just have to wait and see," he said. "We've talked and met with Sony, and they're obviously interested."

DayZ was initially scheduled to launch in December of last year, but now it won't see an alpha until June at the earliest. Hall's main concern is perfecting the client-server architecture, but once that's settled, he'll start sending out batches of alpha keys, possibly 50,000 at a time. And let's not forget that brief time Hall considered turning DayZ into a free-to-play experience.

I think it should stick to PC. But if they do port it, they should use another company like what Mojang did when Minecraft was ported.

It would kill the game.

This game should definitely be PC exclusive. It wouldn't be the same with a controller. He needs to stick to PC because once its on console the servers on PC would drop massively. Although sony and other companies would buy the idea for millions he should still keep dayz strictly to PC. Games this good can only really be handled on a high end PC anyway unless your playing on low graphics which is half as fun. Ps3 and Xbox should get there own new ideas not take PCs old ones.

I agree with the members below me, In my opinion some games should be exclusive to PC and should stay that way. He should just focus on the PC launch as he says is first.

If its going to be on PS3. I could seriously sell my Xbox just to buy a PS3 so I could play this all the time. Even though I could play it on my computer anyways.

Something like DayZ deserves to stay exclusive to PC. The controls wouldn't feel right on a controller.

It will be a successful launch, but i think some things should just stay on PC, can you imagine the 8 year olds on console playing this game screaming and freaking out lol, minecraft already got ported, i think that's enough
