Report: Next Xbox to "kill" pre-owned, requires always on net connection

4.6
Sources claim to have word that the next-gen Xbox will require an always-on internet connection and will block the use of pre-owned games.

The source says that another source “with first hand experience” of the console adds that games will still be buyable, which are supplied on 50GB Blu-ray discs. It is understood that disc games will use an activation code.

So, no more going to the shops and buying cheap second-hand games? There has to be more people who think this is a bad idea by Microsoft.

Do they understand how bad this makes them look?

This is very bad for gamers and for game retailers

A lot of people buy preowned games though. Hopefully this does not drop down the market in keeping the cycle of games going around the cycle.

Considering the fact that my internet is total poop, I hope you don't have to use a activation code to download the games..

If this is true I honestly may buy a playstation...

I hope that they do this. Making people buy the game from new with an activation code ensures that the developers get more money, and not the high street retailers.

I suppose the "Always being connected to the internet" may cause problems, but if they do something similar to Steam with "Offline Mode" then it would be OK.

This is not 100% true, I've heard from trusted sources that the new Xbox and ps4 both don't allow the playability of used games, however you can go back and download a digital copy of the game for free if you've purchased the disk copy, this is so you don't have to re-buy the game if you buy a new Xbox/ps4. Also both new consoles are going to have built in WiFi similar to the Xbox 360 Slim and the current as well as previous ps3 models. The will connect easier and faster than the current hardware, and the system can download these 50GB games 10x faster than the Xbox 360/ps3 can download an 8GB game. The system will set all the system priorities to low so that it can focus 100% power on downloading the game. So much more but not a lot has been confirmed so stay tuned.

Toll This will kill loads of sales for game companies

It's better for games companies,it's just worse for places that sell pre owned games like GAME in the UK which is a rip off anyways as they sell them almost the same price as new games anyways and give you very little cash for trading them in.
