Sony is offering new PlayStation 5 owners the chance to claim a free game. Sony's PS5 console has been around for nearly three years, and it has never had a problem moving units at any point in his history. PS5 sales have been incredibly strong out of the gate, though its popularity contributed to the extreme console shortages that defined the first two years of its existence.
PS5 shortages were a serious problem for the first couple of years of the console's life, thanks to a combination of unprecedented demand, supply chain issues, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and scalpers. The PS5 supply issues have mostly been resolved at this point, and while Sony still doesn't need to do much convincing to get consumers to buy a PS5, the company has an offer available to entice gamers to get a new PS5.
PSN account holders who are at least 18 years old and activate a new PS5 console by October 20, 2023 at 23:59pm PT can claim a free game. The banner with the free game offer should be visible to new PS5 gamers when they visit the PlayStation Store on their console. At that point, they simply have to select one of the listed free games and download it. There are 12 games to choose from. New PS5 gamers can have their choice of Death Stranding: Director's Cut. Demon's Souls, Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut, God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Returnal, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, The Last of Us Part 1, and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection.

New PS5 owners will want to be strategic when it comes to picking out their free game. Some of these titles are readily available to play through the PS Plus Extra and Premium subscription services, so it would make more sense to claim something else. Players will also want to be mindful that they don't double-dip and get a game that may have been a part of their PS5 bundle, like Horizon Forbidden West.
PS5 gamers that can take advantage of this free game offer will also want to take game length and price into account. For example, Spider-Man: Miles Morales is much shorter than Spider-Man Remastered and has a budget price. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is also a relatively short game. However, titles like God of War Ragnarok and Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut are a lot bigger. And then there's Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection to consider, which comes with both Uncharted 4 and the acclaimed Lost Legacy expansion. Whatever the case may be, eligible PS5 owners have until October 20 to decide.
