Resident Evil 4 Remake Sold Over 3 Million Units in its First Two Days

3.6
Resident Evil 4 Remake launched worldwide last week and was met with widespread acclaim from critics and players alike. Unsurprisingly, that level of success is being reflected in the game’s sales as well.

Capcom has announced that the remake sold over 3 million units within just two days of its release. That would mean its sales out the gate are outpacing what other recent Resident Evil games have managed. 2021’s Resident Evil Village sold 3 million units at launch, though it took four days to do so. Meanwhile, 2020’s Resident Evil 3 remake sold over 2 million units in its first five days, while 2019’s Resident Evil 2 remake sold over 3 million units in its first week. Finally, Resident Evil 7 sold 2.5 million units upon launch.

In fact, Resident Evil 4 Remake is the series’ second-biggest launch of all time. The only game in the series to have sold more upon release was Resident Evil 6, which shipped 4.5 million units upon its launch in 2012.

The game certainly deserves its success. In our review of the remake, we awarded it a score of 10/10, saying, “Resident Evil 4 perfectly captures the tone and strengths of the original game, while also managing to improve upon it in truly meaningful ways. In doing so, it once again becomes a standard-bearer for the survival horror genre, while also setting a new bar for Capcom as a developer, for video game remakes, and for the Resident Evil franchise as a whole.” Read the full review through here.

The game also debuted on top of UK’s weekly charts for physical game sales, and enjoyed the series’ biggest ever launch on Steam.

Meanwhile, there’s still plenty of content for fans of the remake to look forward to. Fan-favourite mode The Mercenaries will be added as free DLC on April 7. Recent datamining leaks have revealed character renders, as well as descriptions of the mode’s playable characters and stages. Additionally, free PlayStation VR2-exclusive content is also in the works.

Leaks have claimed that the Ada Wong-focused campaign Separate Ways will also be released as paid DLC down the road, evidence for which has seemingly surfaced courtesy of recent datamining as well.
