Diablo 4 Appears To Be Killing Some Nvidia RTX Graphics Card

4
It appears that some more controversy surrounding Diablo 4's close beta is arising, with users across the likes of Reddit and the Blizzard Forums noting that their graphics cards have been negatively affected by the game.

The commonality between these cases is the specific graphics card itself: the Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti. While the scale of the issue is unknown, some users seem to have had it pretty rough. One Reddit user noted that their 3080 Ti had been bricked after a cutscene just 20 minutes into playing the game, with a response to the post stating they had a similar experience. Likewise, a near-identical exchange was seen on the Blizzard forums. YouTuber Mortismal Gaming, who has amassed a relatively large 161,000 subscriber count, also mentioned in his beta impression of the game that he had the same issue. It's important to note, however, that there were plenty of other players who seemingly didn't have issues, even with the same graphics card.

Whether the blame lies with Blizzard or with the manufacturer has been a topic of debate, although PC Gamer notes that much like with the MMO game New World, the game may just be perpetuating fundamental issues with the graphics card itself, with flimsy soldering being the previously documented Achilles heel. For the time being, it's been advised that anyone playing Diablo 4 with an Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti limit their maximum framerate to mitigate potential issues.

More ubiquitous problems within the closed beta stemmed from long queue times to join the game and some general technical hiccups. However, Diablo's general manager Rod Fergusson has assured players that these would be ironed out before the full launch, with the beta being used as a way to essentially stress test the game and expose any glaring issues for the team to fix up. Additionally, there is an open beta set this weekend from March 24-26.

The full game won't release until June 6, with players who pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition or Ultimate Edition getting four days of early access starting June 2.
