Destiny 2 Planning Changes to Root of Nightmares Boss

The Root of Nightmares raid for Destiny 2's newest expansion, Lightfall, will soon receive a buff to one of its boss fights. Following a This Week at Bungie blogpost, the studio revealed that it will be making some crucial changes to one of Destiny 2's end-game encounters.

The February 28 release of the Lightfall expansion for Destiny 2 brought a ton of new and updated features to Bungie's powerhouse shooter franchise. While elements of Lightfall left some fans underwhelmed, the majority of the content additions and changes were warmly received by the Destiny community, including the redesigned armor mod system and the new Strand subclass. There are nitpicks left to address, but Bungie remains diligent in its pursuit of fine-tuning Destiny 2, setting the stage for its magnum opus, The Final Shape, due out at some point in 2024.

The March 23 This Week at Bungie post highlighted a number of changes coming soon to Destiny 2, chief among them, a much-needed update to the Nezarec boss fight in Root of Nightmares. The raid's release brought criticism from fans, claiming that it was too easy in comparison to other end-game activities in Lightfall, with simplified mechanics relative to Destiny 2's other raids. Bungie wasted no time in responding to the critiques, announcing changes to the raid set to come in a mid-season patch. Nezarec's spotty responsiveness to players, especially while they stand in a Warlock's Well of Radiance, will be tweaked to make him a more imposing and deadly combatant, which, according to Bungie, will "make Nezarec feel more like the Final God of Pain."

The changes to Nezerac followed additional announcements which aim to ameliorate frustrated fans' issues with Root of Nightmare's lack of difficulty. A Master Mode is incoming for the new raid, as well as a rotating set of weekly challenges, which will push Guardians' skills to their limits as they conquer enhanced versions of Root of Nightmare's encounters. Though several issues remain unresolved as Lightfall's first season rolls on, Bungie's consistent response to player feedback bodes well for Destiny 2 as it approaches the end of its Light and Dark Saga.

Destiny 2 is fast approaching the finality of its sweeping universe-spanning narrative, and as Bungie continues to expand and iterate upon the franchise, the excitement from its dedicated fan base grows. The conclusion of the Nezerac story arc as well as the timely buff to the encounter so that it lives up to its hype is a great sign for the epic moments to come for Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
