Ed Boon Has "Definitely Considered" A Mortal Kombat 4 Remake

3.7
Game Director at NetherRealm Studios Ed Boon recently remarked that a remake of Mortal Kombat 4 was “definitely considered.” This of course comes hot on the heels of the incredibly popular and highly successful remake of Dead Space, released earlier this month to widespread critical acclaim.

The news comes from a brief exchange on the social media platform Twitter. When a user posted a picture showing a potential cover for a Mortal Kombat 4 remake, Boon pointed out that “yes, I’ve definitely considered this over the years.” The picture features a couple of characters from the series including Raiden, Liu Kang, and a variety of other popular protagonists. The words “Mortal Kombat 4 Remake” run along the bottom.

Mortal Kombat 4 came out back in 1997 for arcades and shortly afterwards for PlayStation, Nintendo 64, and PC. The game was the first entry in the series to feature 3D graphics. Mortal Kombat 4 was released to fairly mixed reviews, but fans of the franchise have always held the game in high esteem. With advancements in technology and the success of the Mortal Kombat reboot in 2011, many players have been considering the possibility of a remake, especially given the praise recently heaped upon Dead Space.

The success of the Dead Space remake has been fueling speculation within certain communities that reproductions and reinterpretations of some beloved games from earlier eras could in fact be successful. Mortal Kombat remains incredibly popular as a franchise, having developed a dedicated fanbase over the course of the past couple of decades.

While there has been no announcement of a Mortal Kombat 4 remake from NetherRealm, many fans of the series clearly hope that something along these lines will happen at some point in the very near future. Mortal Kombat remains incredibly successful as a franchise, players producing all kinds of related content over the years from videos and screenshots to mods and even standalone spinoffs.

Runts Noo we don't need a MK remake lol just keep making fresh ones with dlc

Yeah, I think I agree when it comes to such games.
I don't think this could satiate peoples nostalgia and would probably just end up disappointing fans.

Jen That'd be cool if they made a remake considering it came out in 1997

I feel like they wouldn't succeed in capturing the essence of the game. Hopefully I'm wrong though...
