Battlefield 2042 Update Will Make Changes to Controversial Feature

4.2
Battlefield 2042 is about to receive a massive update that will fundamentally change how the game is played. Battlefield 2042 was released in 2021 and it had a lot of hype rallying behind it. Call of Duty was in a strange place, so all eyes were on Battlefield. The game was being advertised as a return to form for the series, doubling down on the things that made people fall in love with the series with big, large scale maps, a somewhat modern setting, and so on. Unfortunately, things didn't pan out very well for the full game. It was absurdly buggy, the maps were quite bad, and people were upset with various changes, such as the addition of Specialists instead of traditional classes.

Thankfully, DICE has confirmed it is bringing traditional classes back to Battlefield 2042 and massively changing the Specialist system. In a new update releasing this coming week, every specialist will be assigned to one of the four classic classes (Assault, Engineer, Support, Recon) and will essentially act as a skin for said class. From there, you can choose from a pool of gadgets and equipment that are more fitting for the class to create more structure for the game and encourage squad play with a variety of characters.

It's a bit like CoD in this situation / regard. People have wanted the old ways since release and they do it like a year later...

It's unlikely... it took them five years since BFV, so we probably have at least another couple of years until the next instalment!

There were 3 years in between the release of BFV and BF 2042.. Not 5 lol

I just checked and you are right. How did I get that so wrong? It felt like a lot longer haha
Time flies!

Ok, time to finally redownload this and give it another run....
I've been threatening it for a few months now.

I wish they'd scrap seasons...
