Some Versions of Hogwarts Legacy Have Been Delayed

3.8
The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Hogwarts Legacy have been delayed, and the Switch version has finally been given a definitive release date. This week is proving to be a rather busy one for those looking forward to Hogwarts Legacy. The release date delay will no doubt be bad news for those who have yet to upgrade their consoles, but there is at least something to look forward to this week.

On Wednesday, December 14 at 10am PT, Hogwarts Legacy will host a new gameplay showcase that will focus on advanced combat, broom flying, and the Room of Requirement. These gameplay features have been touched on already, but it seems the developers have even more details to share. Those interested should be sure to tune in, but it may be a bitter watch for those who are still gaming on PS4 and Xbox One.

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Hogwarts Legacy have been delayed to April 4, 2023. Additionally, the Nintendo Switch version of Hogwarts Legacy, which fans have known for a while would not be releasing on the same day as the other versions, has been given a July 25, 2023 release date. The delay is so the team can "deliver the best possible game experience across all platforms." The PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Hogwarts Legacy are not impacted by the delay, and they will still launch on the previously-announced release date.

Barring any further delays, the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Hogwarts Legacy should be available on February 10. Those that pre-order the Deluxe Edition, Digital Deluxe Edition, or Collector's Edition of the game will get 72 hours early access, which means they can start their Hogwarts adventure on February 7.

Needless to say, there are likely many fans who are going to be upset by this news, as this means they will now have to wait an extra two months to play the long-awaited game. This also greatly increases the odds that those on PS4 and Xbox One will get spoilers for Hogwarts Legacy's story, as those on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X will be able to play well in advance of them.

For those that can afford to buy a new console, the bright side is that it should be much easier to do so nowadays than it was a year ago. PS5 and Xbox Series X console supply have both been dramatically increased for the holiday shopping season, so those that can spare the cash and don't want to wait any longer to play Hogwarts Legacy should keep an eye out for the new consoles.

Hogwarts Legacy launches February 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with PS4 and Xbox One versions coming April 4 and the Switch version launching on July 25.
