Plans to end support for the game were confirmed today after the company said in October that it would be focusing on its core business of PC and console development, with mobile projects set to be carried out in collaboration with external studios.
Released in July 2021, The Witcher: Monster Slayer is a free-to-play RPG for iOS and Android devices. Development of the augmented reality, location-based game has now been discontinued.
It will be removed from Google Play and the App Store on January 31, 2023, and access to the game will be disabled for all players on June 30 next year.
The game’s developer, CD Projekt’s Spokko mobile games studio, is expected to be folded into the larger group to work other projects.
In October, CD Projekt Red outlined its development slate for the foreseeable future, including a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, a new trilogy of Witcher games, Witcher spin-offs, and the studio’s first original IP.
New content support for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, the free-to-play title that was officially released in 2018, will also end next year, although CD Projekt isn’t shutting it down.
It plans to release 72 more Gwent cards across three expansions in April, July and September 2023.
