Valheim Lead Artist Says A Sequel Is Possible

4
A sequel for Valheim is a definite possibility, Lead Artist Robin Eyre has revealed in an interview with GamesRadar, although his initial idea for a spinoff game has already been shot down by developer Iron Gate Studio. When asked if a sequel for the popular procedurally-generated survival title was possible, Eyre responded in the affirmative, but he noted that his initial spinoff idea, which would have been a dramatic shift in both play style and visuals, doesn't seem to have much of a future.

"They've said no to me, so this is not happening," Eyre said in the interview. "This is not a sequel, but I want to make a Greydwarf game. It's a pixel side-scroller where you play as Greydwarves, and it’s versus Vikings instead."

Eyre's pitch apparrently included a couple ideas for having the greydwarf game directly connected to Valheim in more than just story. For example, the game could have been a complement to the original Valheim, with the possibility of transferring items gained in the side-scroller over to the main game, or it could have been a fun Easter egg buried in the main game's credits.

Valheim's take on survival tactics puts an emphasis on the Nordic aesthetic, as you lead your fantasy Vikings across a sprawling world, setting up temporary settlements in nomadic fashion as you hunt down the game's monsters. One of those monster types, and apparently one that is close to Eyre's own heart, is the greydwarf — a tree-like being that attacks players as they roam around the world's dark forests — so Eyre's idea also would have flipped the tables by letting you play against the hero side from the main game.

Although still listed as an early-access title, Valheim has been nothing short of a Steam success story since its initial launch in early February 2021, earning a 95 percent positive ratings score and landing it in the very rare category of "Overwhelmingly Positive" on the platform. It's also earned places of honor in DualShockers' lists of best open-world RPGs, best survival games, and best crafting games. While no sequel or spinoff has official been announced at this time, Senior Developer Jonthan Smårs said in the same interview that the company is devoted to continuing to work on the base game and hopes to bring it out of early access soon.

If you haven't yet tried Valheim, you can currently pick it up on its official Steam page at a discounted price of $13.99. Valheim is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

No need for a sequel, just release DLC's

I don't think I would like this game.

I think this game could seriously thrive with some mod support. At least within my friend group, the consensus is that we don't need a sequel or even a full DLC... just a good mod community.
