MW2 composer says the soundtrack is not her ‘artistic intent’

The composer of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II has said she is leaving the project before its official soundtrack is released.

Sarah Schachner took to Twitter to address players, many of whom she claims have been asking her when the game’s soundtrack will be ready to download and stream.

In a statement, Schachner said: “I am sad to say I can no longer continue to compose music for Modern Warfare II / Warzone.

“Over the past couple of months the working dynamic with the audio director has become increasingly challenging and I don’t see any path forward.”

She added: “As of now, I am unsure of the status and release plan for the soundtrack as it’s been taken out of my hands.”

Schachner went on to state that she doesn’t approve of the game’s yet-to-be-released soundtrack, claiming it doesn’t meet the standards she wanted it to.

“While I don’t have any control over how the music is presented in-game, what will be released on the soundtrack is not my artistic intent in regards to mixing and mastering,” she said.

“Mike Dean was a part of the creative vision for the album as well as mixer Frank Wolf. We have soundtrack masters in hand from Mike which unfortunately you will never get to hear.

“I would like to acknowledge the incredible hard work of the audio team as a whole, and I hope you still enjoy it because I put so much work and effort into it. The score features some wonderful performances by musicians Baseck, Brain Mantia, and M.B. Gordy.

“I’m truly appreciative of the outreach so far and I feel a responsibility to the fans to remain authentic in my approach with the game and its sound which I have been a part of creating for many years.”

Schachner previously composed the music for 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and 2016’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, as well as Assassin’s Creed Unity, Origins and Valhalla for Ubisoft, and Anthem for EA.

She also recently composed the score for Prey, 20th Century Studios’ reboot of the Predator franchise.

Activision claimed on Monday that Modern Warfare 2 had recorded the biggest launch in the history of the long-running series. It said the game topped $800 million in sales in its first three days, surpassing the previous five-day franchise sales record set in 2011 by Modern Warfare 3.

She did great on the soundtrack on her part, it's what the "bosses" do with it afterwards which can mess it up
