Gotham Knights' Denuvo Removed By First PC Patch

4
As promised by WB Montreal, the first update for Gotham Knights arrived last night on PC, addressing a number of stability and connectivity issues, however, it seems like the developers have also removed the Denuvo anti-tamper protection software without mentioning it in the official patch notes.

Gotham Knights was one of the many triple-A titles that used the Denuvo anti-tamper software to avoid hackers from cracking the game right after launch and releasing it publicly for free. However, Denuvo is not a popular software among gamers as it usually brings performance downgrade to games, avoiding them from using the full potential of gaming PCs for delivering the highest possible frame rates. As a result, we do see publishers remove the Denuvo anti-tamper from their titles after a certain period. For some, it takes a few months, while some others remove it a few years after the game's launch.

For Gotham Knights, however, the period was even less than a week. It took WB Montreal only 5 days to get rid of the anti-tamper software, so it can boost Gotham Knights' performance on PC a little.

According to a report by DSOG, removing the Denuvo anti-tamper has not helped the game to make progress in finding a solution for sudden frame drops. DSOG claims that they have tested similar scenarios before and after the patch, and they can confirm that the sudden frame drops still happen in the exact same situations.

Regarding the fact that WB Montreal has not acknowledged the removal of Denuvo, there is a small chance that maybe this removal was unintentional, and it might come back in future updates again. However, if the hackers manage to crack the game in the period that Denuvo has been deactivated, probably bringing the anti-tamper back would be a waste of time.

In a recent tweet, the official Twitter account for Gotham Knights reassured fans that the investigation into the game's performance issues continues, and more updates will be available in the near future. Console players can expect to receive a new update later this week, while another PC update is in the pipeline to arrive soon.
