Octopath Traveler 2’s Development is 90% Complete

Square Enix may only have announced Octopath Traveler 2 just recently, but the wait for the new HD-2D turn-based JRPG isn’t going to be a long one. And sure enough, ahead of its launch in February of next year, its developer has confirmed that the game’s development is close to wrapping up.

Speaking in an interview with Famitsu (via Noisy Pixel), Square Enix confirmed that Octopath Traveler 2’s development is “in the last stretch” and is roughly “90% complete”.

“We’re excited to finally announce to everyone that Octopath Traveler 2’s development is 90% complete,” the developer said. “We are currently in the last stretch, so we ask that you wait just a little bit more. Keep an eye out for further information coming out at a later date.”

Octopath Traveler 2 will, of course, use the core battle mechanics of its predecessor, along with employing the same gorgeous HD-2D visual style, but from completely new characters and a new world serving as its setting to new gameplay mechanics and more, it’ll be making plenty of changes as well.

One area where it’s going to adhere to the original’s style more closely, however, is the music, with composer Yasunori Nishiki set to return.

Octopath Traveler 2 is due out on February 24, 2023 for PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Square Enix recently also announced that the original game has exceeded 3 million units in worldwide shipments and digital sales.
