Someone Is Modding Sonic.EXE Into Origins

3.8
Remember Sonic.EXE? The hold this creepypasta had on the internet in the early 2010s cannot be overstated. It was everywhere. And we all found it bloody terrifying. Starting out as an internet urban legend, Sonic.EXE later spawned into a bunch of fan games, all hellbent on terrifying you even further. And now, a Sonic Origins mod continues in this proud tradition.

Sonic Origins: Sonic.EXE Remastered Edition revives the terrifying internet tale for new audiences, transforming the retro collection game into nightmare fuel. All of the visuals have been changed to the horrifying colours we got in the original fan games, and Sonic's model has been given his iconic black eyes, crying tears of blood.

The mod has only just entered development, with its Game Banana page stating that 5 percent of the game has been completed. As it involves going over every level across four different games, it's understandable that we're in for a bit of a wait.

But in the meantime, we can see what the mod's creator, SonicsGamingHub, has put together already. So far, it looks like Sonic 1's Green Hill Zone has been completed, now sporting a sea of blood, surrounding dead grass. It remains to be seen what SonicsGamingHub does with the rest of the levels, but it's sure to be unnerving given what we've been shown already.

However, not every Sonic Origins player will have to download the mod to get a wacky experience with the game. As we reported yesterday, some players on PC are still unable to launch the game. But rather than it being caused by a cursed .EXE file, it's instead apparently down to the game not being able to understand unicode - any character that's not on a standard QWERTY keyboard. This means that anyone who has an accent in their name is experiencing the oversight, and has to make changes to the game themselves to play it at all. Unfortunately, this wasn't fixed in the latest update.
