Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC Tracks Potentially Leaked By Music Files

4.2
A video posted by YouTube user BL, as seen below, showed off very short snippets of music themes belonging to 15 different old tracks from Mario Kart‘s extensive catalog. Each clip is little more than a second long, but they were long enough for hardcore fans to discern and list the tracks these themes belonged to. As relayed by BL, these music files are supposedly ‘prefetch’ files, which are meant to play when the race begins, allowing the longer full looping track to load. A screenshot of the alleged data mined files can be seen here.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the most successful Mario Kart game of all time, as well as the highest-selling Nintendo Switch ever, despite being a port of Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U. The game garnered such success that Nintendo decided instead of making an original game for the Switch, they would simply continue to support Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with new content. The Booster Course Pass DLC is split into six different waves, with each containing two cups of four courses. Wave two was recently revealed, and became available on August 4, 2022.

The veracity of this leak is difficult to affirm. The user who found the files is apparently a different individual with no recognizable online presence. No one else has yet to claim they’ve been able to find these files, so the possibility of this being manufactured cannot be disproven.

However, what does lend it credence is that the tracks aren’t identical. Comparing just the starting second of the ‘prefetch’ files with the starting second of the original tracks, you can notice the similarity in the melody, but they are clearly remixed with different instrumentals. For this to have been faked, the user would have had to create a believable starting second of 15 different Mario Kart track themes, with different instruments. The 15 potential tracks, as relayed by BL, are listed as follows;

Cnsw_31 (Tour London Loop)
Cnsw_32 (DS Peach Gardens)
Cnsw_33 (GBA Boo Lake/Broken Pier)
Cnsw_34 (3DS Rock Rock Mountain)
Cnsw_35 (Tour Berlin Byways)
Cnsw_36 (GCN Waluigi Stadium/Wario Colosseum)
Cnsw_37 (Merry Mountain)
Cnsw_38 (3DS Rainbow Road)
Cnsw_41 (Tour Amsterdam Drift)
Cnsw_45 (Tour Singapore Speedway)
Cnsw_48 (Tour Los Angeles Laps)
Cnsw_53 (GBA Sunset Wilds)
Cnsw_55 (Tour Bangkok Rush)
Cnsw_61 (Tour Vancouver Velocity)
Cnsw_62 (Wii Maple Treeway)

The two options on the sixth track are due to both of them having the same theme, back in Mario Kart: Double Dash. Due to the file’s naming convention, the assumption made by many is that the first 8 tracks are for the DLC’s third wave, while the others will release throughout the remaining waves. Many fans are expressing unbridled glee due to the alleged inclusion of tracks such as 3DS Rainbow Road and Maple Treeway. If this is true, the latter track won’t be coming for a long time, since it’s listed as being in the sixth wave, and the DLC is slated to finalize towards the end of 2023.
