No Man's Sky Coming to Switch in October

3.7
Hello Games has announced that the Nintendo Switch port of No Man’s Sky will be released on October 7.

Hello Games will be porting the massive spacefaring adventure game to the portable Nintendo Switch, which is quite a technological feat. No Man’s Sky was released initially on PC and PlayStation 4 back in 2016 to a lot of community backlash as the game lacked promised features and functionality.

However, the game was continuously updated over the years and is now quite well-regarded. No Man’s Sky was released for Xbox One in 2018 followed by a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S release in 2020. The last console in line will now get its time to shine as the game is getting a Nintendo Switch port.

In a short video, Hello Games co-founder Sean Murray shared his excitement about the project. “Honestly I think this team is never happier than when they’re trying to do these near-impossible things. We’ve been updating No Man’s Sky for six years now and every Switch player will benefit from that from day one” Murray shared.

Nintendo Switch players can look forward to experiencing the 15+ major updates Hello Games has added to No Man’s Sky in the last six years. As reported by Kotaku, Sean Murray is particularly proud of the technological hurdles the team had to overcome to make this happen: “This has been a real moonshot for our small team. No Man’s Sky is built around procedural generation, which means the console generates everything you see. This makes it so much harder to bring our game to something like the Switch…”

The Switch version of No Man’s Sky can be played docked or undocked and has full touch screen functionality. Both digital and physical copies will be available at launch. Additionally, a physical copy of the PlayStation 5 edition will become available on the same day.

There may be growing pains associated with running this procedurally generated behemoth of a space survival game on a less powerful console, but Hello Games has been nothing but committed to improving the game since its release so it’s likely any issues will be ironed out after the fact.
