Rumor – Microsoft is Among Potential Activision Buyers

Vevendi, the majority stakeholder of Activision Blizzard, has began “testing the appetite of possible bidders.” Vivendi has a 60 percent stake in the biggest video game publisher, Activision Blizzard. Interestingly, Microsoft’s name has come up in the list of potential new suitors

“Although a formal process has not started, bankers close to Vivendi are sounding out cash-rich trade players, including China’s Tencent and U.S. duo Time Warner and Microsoft, as well as private-equity heavyweights KKR, Providence and Blackstone,” Reuters‘ sources claim.

The French conglomerate’s stake in Activision has an estimated price of 10 billion dollars.

I just really didn't like the fact of PS3 being hacked so I just went to Xbox.

Emazing-Lights Sony would be screwed it they go with this.

Don't say that. Im getting a ps4 when the next gen consoles come out. Due to the fact that MS is screwing us on a daily basis making us pay for online services.

I hope this happens and at the same time I don't.

Playstation will be screwed.

Great! if Microsoft buys Activision and doubles their profits or something, there will be no need to pay for Live anymore!

ORL_MAGIC Play station is screwed if this goes down Microsoft's way. If they can control cod sales then they will have halo and cod all to themselves. The 2 most bought fps franchises ever. So many people would hop over to an xbox when they realize they can't have cod. The next xbox sales are gonna kill the ps4 if this goes through since so many people play call of duty on ps3.

I never thought about that :o So true!

Telenow I don't think they would allow this because Microsoft owns so much and it could become a monopoly but who knows. I'm sure I'm not 100% correct but still.

Microsoft is pretty much already an monopoly.

T0xic8ear I would like to see this happen, it can go 2 ways It will either destroy Call of duty forever or make it even better.

They don't develop the game, they only publish it. If MS bought Activision the only thing they would change is what platform(s) it is released on, what marketing it gets and what prices they set.

Not really they already do that with contracts.

Still, it only increases their influence over what prices and marketing actually happen, we know contracts don't always go to plan and they sometimes have disputes, look at the olympics security as an example!
