Returnal Team Hopeful PS Plus Extra Members Will 'Dare to Try It'

Returnal's managing director Ilari Kuittinen hopes PS Plus Extra members will "dare to try" the game when it's rolled out to subscribers as part of the service's big relaunch in June. Speaking to Eurogamer after the PS5 exclusive scooped up awards for Best Game, Audio Achievement, Best Music, Best Performer in a Leading Role at last night's BAFTA Game Awards, Kuittinen suggests that's what's so good about subscription services.

"There's no hidden cost, if you like, it's easy to get into," he explained. As such, the Housemarque employee hopes subscribers will "dare to try it". Kuittinen also had praise to share for Sony: "Sony does [make] some wise decisions, like funding this game. They started to fund this game five years ago, they took a leap of faith." Two months after Returnal's release, Sony acquired the Finnish developer, making it an official member of PlayStation Studios.

The PS5 rogue-like is just one of a few confirmed games to launch with PS Plus Extra — the others are Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Mortal Kombat 11. As the step above PS Plus Essential, it'll cost £83.99/$99.99 for a yearly subscription. The main perk of this tier is gaining access to up to 400 PS5, PS4 titles, all of which can be downloaded. Should you want to go one step further, PS Plus Premium introduces a back catalogue of classic PS1, PS2, and PSP titles, as well as PS3 game streaming. The list of games is said to reach roughly 340.
