Modern Warfare 2 Reportedly Changing Controversial Feature

4.5
According to a new report, Call of Duty 2022 -- a reboot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and a follow-up to 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare -- is making changes to the series' most controversial feature. Over the past few years, skill-based matchmaking, more popularly known as SBMM, has become the bogeyman of Call of Duty fans. The system of skill-based matchmaking has been around for many, many years, but it's only in the past few years that it's come to the attention of fans, partially because of the fine-tuning that's been made to it recently, but also because of the various social media campaigns against it.

For those that don't know: SBMM is a system of matchmaking that aims to create a balance of skill. Every game and series achieves this differently, but Call of Duty does this by filling up matches with players of similar skill. It's basically turned public multiplayer into ranked multiplayer, and most players hate it, especially those with above-average skills in the game, as it means the days of racking up huge killstreaks and lackadaisical playing are over unless you're willing to take the time to game the system.

SBMM has been the biggest hot-button topic in the Call of Duty community the last few years, and apparently, it's not completely falling on deaf ears. According to a prominent Call of Duty insider, Ralph, Infinity Wards has plans for revising the SBMM system with this year's Call of Duty. What changes are being made, Ralph doesn't say, but apparently, Infinity Ward is doing some considerable tweaking. Despite this though, disbanding lobbies is not part of this tweaking. Ralph claims this is here to stay for the foreseeable future, across all titles in the franchise.

Unfortunately, for now, the report is ripe with salient details. Of course, as more information comes in from Ralph or other sources, we will update accordingly. In the meantime, take everything here with a grain of salt.

They should keep it the way it is. Nothing wrong with it

Even with skill based matchmaking I still found myself getting 100+ kill games on rust and having a great time overall in multiplayer. Playing with friends also seems impact of sbmm (depending on party leader). The biggest gripe with sbm for me would have to be lobbies splitting after each game. Let me decide whether or not i want to continue playing with the same people.

I kind of miss that atmosphere of seeing some people bounce after each match and some people stay. But man, I go back to the days of socom. G^ fools

I have a love-hate relationship with SBMM. It is not fun to play against people that are of much lower skill than me but it is very satisfying playing against opponents that are of the same skill set. I understand how an algorithm that may lower the possibility of matching with a player of the same skill set may be beneficial. I may not want to sweat it out every game but a good challenge is what keeps me on.

why dont they just use the same sbmm that mw2 originally had.... aint no complaints

Don't need sbmm in public lobbies. Keep it for ranked play. People don't wanna sweat on the game like it's their job.

Yall are bad at cod. Get good.

disbanding lobbies sucks . It was fun playing against an even team or a team that beat you, again & again. Running it back was a great time, especially with great ping.

Gary If you complain about SBMM you are bad.

Not true, no one wants to sit there and play call of duty or any video game like its a job. Takes the fun out of the game when you need to be competitive every second.

Facts my G,
Can't wait for this being able to chil and play,
Then still got Br, what ever the ranked mode is or game battles for competitiveness
