DICE won’t get the chance to make Star Wars Battlefront 3 it’s claimed

DICE won’t get the chance to make Star Wars Battlefront 3 as parent company Electronic Arts plans to lean more heavily on its in-house IP going forward.

That’s according to a new VentureBeat report, which claims EA has no intention of making more Star Wars games following a trio of Respawn projects announced on Tuesday.

These include a Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sequel, a Star Wars FPS being helmed by former LucasArts veteran and Medal of Honor co-creator Peter Hirschmann, and a strategy game co-produced with Bit Reactor, a new studio formed by veterans of XCOM and Civilization studio Firaxis.

Going forward, EA is reportedly planning to reduce its licensing fees and rely more heavily on its own IP such as Battlefield, Dead Space, Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

Journalist Tom Henderson, who has a strong track record with EA reporting, also claimed in November that plans for a third Battlefront game from DICE were rejected by EA due to the costs of using the Star Wars license.

Lucasfilm confirmed last January that a Star Wars exclusivity deal with EA was set to end by partnering with Ubisoft on a new open-world game, although EA responded by stating that its long-standing collaboration with Lucasfilm Games would “continue for years to come”.

BioWare is also gearing up to launch a new Star Wars: The Old Republic expansion in February to mark the 10th anniversary of the MMO, while Star Wars Squadrons developer and fellow EA studio Motive may also be working on a new Star Wars action game.
