The Game Awards claims record viewership figures in 2021

The Game Awards enjoyed record viewership figures in 2021, the show’s organisers have claimed.

Held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on December 9, the eighth edition of the annual event was a major production featuring musical performances, celebrity guests, an awards show and a host of game reveals.

Among the headline audience figures, The Game Awards 2021 delivered a record 85 million global livestreams views across video and social media platforms, up from 83 million last year and 45.2 million in 2019.

The official YouTube livestream also set a new record for watch time with over 1.75 million hours viewed on the main feed, which was up 14% compared to 2020’s record-setting livestream.

Authenticated online fan voting for the awards also reportedly increased 27% from last year, with more than 23.2 million votes cast.

“We are grateful we could return to an in-person ceremony in 2021 and continue to build on our success with significant international growth in 2021,” said The Game Awards producer Geoff Keighley.

It Takes Two won the top prize at The Game Awards 2021, where it scooped three awards including the coveted Game of the Year.

Other headlines from the show included the reveals of Alan Wake 2, Sonic Frontiers, Star Wars Eclipse, Wonder Woman and Slitterhead.
