Microsoft has announced that Halo Infinite’s free-to-play multiplayer mode will be released today via a beta.

Infinite’s free-to-play multiplayer beta is available to now on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X consoles, developer 343 announced during an Xbox 20th anniversary live stream on Monday. It will also be available via Xbox Cloud Gaming starting later today.

Players will have access to all maps and content, plus the full Season One Battle Pass to unlock, with progression carrying over to the official release on December 8.

Prior to today’s announcement, Halo Infinite’s free-to-play multiplayer component was officially set to launch alongside the game’s campaign next month.

However, over the weekend, date references found in the source code for Halo Infinite’s official store page suggested an early multiplayer release could be on the cards. They included multiple uses of today’s date with the reference ‘PreOrderReleaseDate’ and the time 18:00.

Shortly after the website date was published, Microsoft seemingly updated Halo Infinite’s store page to change it to the game’s release date of December 8.

As part of the recent Halo Infinite technical preview, players got the chance to test its 4v4 Arena battles and 12v12 Big Team Battle contests.

Online services for several legacy Halo games will be discontinued in January 2022, 343 Industries confirmed recently.

The games set to be impacted are Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo 4, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Spartan Assault and Halo Wars.
