Rumor: Halo Infinite Could Have Multiple Campaigns

4
Halo Infinite releases in just over a month, delivering one of the most anticipated Halo experiences since 343 Industries officially took over the franchise from Bungie. That's because Halo Infinite is returning to its roots, delivering a campaign set heavily on a proper Halo ring. It's a campaign that Halo fans have been anxious for. It may, however, not be the only campaign awaiting Halo fans in Halo Infinite. Yet more evidence of Halo Infinite featuring multiple campaigns has been discovered.

The Halo Infinite website on 343's Halo Waypoint Hub appears to have updated on Friday with three "Jump To" buttons, leading to sections further down the page. These include "Multiplayer," "News," and, interestingly, "Campaigns." That's right, the button's label is plural, implying it'll lead to information on multiple campaigns. Clicking the button disappointingly leads to a subheading reading "Campaign," however, and a brief description of the Halo Infinite story as fans have previously heard about it.

Halo Infinite featuring multiple campaigns isn't a new idea. While 343 hasn't outright said that it plans to release multiple campaigns for its online shooter, it's hinted at such possibilities. That's because Halo Infinite isn't just "the next" Halo, it's also a platform for Halo content going forward. In 2020, the current Studio Head at the time, Chris Lee, explained that Halo Infinite's launch would be the "start of the next ten years for Halo" and that there were plans to build the experience over time.

The "Campaigns" button also isn't entirely new, as it was previously found on Halo Waypoint's beta website. At the time, there were some questions regarding whether it was a typo or mistake, but since the website has now gone live it can confidently be said the button's there with intent. The website may only refer to a single Halo Infinite campaign at the moment, but it's built for the possibility of more being added later.

Of course, Chris Lee is no longer leading 343 Industries and Halo Infinite has gone through significant changes since 2020. It's possible that plans have changed within 343 and Xbox, that Halo Infinite's scope has been shrunk to allow the team to focus more on delivering quality standalone products rather than a live service experience. It's unlikely, but it's possible.

What's more likely is that 343 plans to launch Halo Infinite with a massive campaign on December 8, as planned. Then, before long, 343 will detail plans to roll out substantial post-launch content, including larger expansions. Those expansions will likely include new campaigns. 343 could do small seasonal campaigns, medium-sized annual campaigns like Destiny 2, or larger multi-year full-sized campaigns akin to typical Halo games, all within the Halo Infinite platform. Needless to say, Halo Infinite's launch is just the start of 343's plans.

Halo Infinite releases December 8 on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
