Is Microsoft already making dev kits for the next Xbox?

4.7
Has Microsoft already started putting together the hardware for the next Xbox console? That's the word from IGN, who claims via unnamed sources that the Austin, Texas branch of Flextronics is assembling the components for the successor to the Xbox 360. Flextronics is the main manufacturer of both the current and original Xbox.

The article speculates that these next-gen Xbox consoles are being made as game development kits that will later be sent to game publishers and development studios so they can continue the process of creating launch titles for the next Xbox.

Flextronics would not comment on the report. In a statement, Microsoft said, "We are always thinking about what is next for our platform and how to continue to defy the lifecycle convention. Beyond that we do not comment on rumors or speculation."

Microsoft has already said it does not plan to make any announcements about a successor to the Xbox at next month's E3 trade show in Los Angeles. It's expected that the next Xbox won't launch until at least the end of 2013. Some rumors claim that the next version of the Xbox will have as many as 16 processor cores and be six times as powerful as the current Xbox 360.

Kat I have been and active member on Xbox live and with Microsoft for years but it seems that. The economy is going up gas prices are sky rocketing and the cost for Xbox live gold is just too much and Microsoft are just money hungry and crooks. First off they discontinued 1 month trials which were bad and then after doing that they increased a 3 month gold trial to 25$ which is just too much. 25$ x 4 = 100 dollars just to play online for a video game but doing this is making you pay more then what you would to buy a 1 year trial which is 55$. So basically there trying to make you pay for a 1 year trial or making you pay the price for 3 months where you can play PSN for free. Basically let me cut to the chase i will not be buying the Xbox 720 or Xbox 3 what ever it should be called. I will be buying Sony's future product.

Obviously you are not an active member if you didn't know that xbox is free as of the summer...

If you plan on buying the next xbox, instead of a ps3/4/****, you should contemplate all the choices you've ever made in your life.

Because that's a stupidass one.

irsninja200 With 16 cores and being 6x more powerful then the current xbox, you should AT LEAST expect a $800 price tag at launch!

Its not going to have 16 core, only 4 or 6. The PS3 already has 7 and the current 360 has 4
