That’s according to retail sources who told Polish publication PPE that the three-game collection will indeed receive a boxed release, but only the last-gen versions will arrive before Christmas.
PS4, Xbox One and Switch versions will release Physically on December 7, the site’s sources claim, with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S editions arriving sometime next year.
Officially, Rockstar has said only that the collection will release later this year for consoles and PC, followed by mobile in 2022.
The physical dates, if accurate, don’t necessarily rule out an earlier digital release for GTA: The Trilogy, and reliable industry insider Tom Henderson recently claimed Rockstar was aiming for November.
Last week one retailer suggested that the three-game remaster package will be sold at a premium price on new-gen consoles.
Retailer Base.com was the first to open pre-orders for The Definitive Edition collection and according to them it’s set to be sold for $70 / £70 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One versions of Trilogy are listed by the retailer with an RRP of $60 / £60. Rockstar is yet to confirm official pricing details.
Announced earlier this week, GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is set to include enhanced versions of GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas with visual improvements and “modern gameplay enhancements”.
Alongside the announcement, Rockstar confirmed it would remove the existing versions of the games – which were occasionally available as a bundle for less than $10 – from digital storefronts including Steam.
