Assassin's Creed 2 is not afraid of no Call of Duty

4.7

I know what you're contemplating. You read the headline and you're expecting a report on some type of drama, maybe a member from one of the development teams was running their mouth? Maybe a high level exec at Ubisoft or Activision pulled a Kaz Hirai and lost their damn mind? Well I'm sorry to disappoint you because none of that is what this is about.

Now that we have that out of the way, the headline relates to Ubisoft saying that they aren't afraid to release Assassin's Creed 2 in close proximity to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. One week ahead of the Activisions game, which some believe could be the best selling game of all time. Ubisoft's Patrice Desilets sat down with VG247 during GamesCom and let the world know that they aren't scared of Infinity Ward's juggernaut.

“People, when they want their first-person shooter fix, they buy Modern Warfare. If you want you a swords, running on rooftops, big open city fix, this is it. And there are people that want to play that, and they don’t want to play the game with guns.”

The word thus far on Assassin's Creed 2 has been really positive. Considering the first one sold 9 million copies, despite being flawed with bang your head repititiveness, I'd say that's pretty good. But when Desilets rationalizes herhis bravado by referencing how Assassin's Creed released before the first CoD: Modern Warfare and managed to do extremely well, I think she'she's missing one little detail. Both games were being introduced to gamers for the first time in the same release window. One went on to be regarded as one of the best FPS's this generation, and the other was crapped on for being bang your head repetitive.

Personally I'm going to play through both of them, because I'm a nerd like that, but who knows how the rest of the gaming public will go.

AC2 mite get more buys at the beginning because it is cheaper and personally, I think, better than the CoD games. Back to the news bit, CoD 6 wont get much more buys because of 50 Cent being in it. Voice Overs only affect the game budget in a decreasing way. It costs more hiring them than they gain from people buying the game because of them.

I think mw2 and assassins creed will be the most played games on xbox360 in the first few weeks of them being released.

I believe that it is a FAIL to release behind anything Infinity Ward makes. This game is going to need its own category for how awesome it will be. As for Assassin's Creed 2 It will do alright, I know many people that liked the first one but they all would rather get COD modern Warfare 2. I believe there sales of the game will show the mistake of releasing it when they did.

i doubt very much MW2 will outsell final fantasy 7.
