Battlefield 2042’s new Portal mode already looks to be an incredible inclusion to the world of Battlefield that could really drive the creativity of player and lead to some incredible experiences, though hard as you might try, this new mode won’t let you create a battle royale mode in any way.

The news comes from a new report from website The Loadout, who asked Ripple Effect directly as to whether or not you can create a battle royale game type within the Portal mode. Rob Donovan, senior game designer at Ripple Effect responded by saying:

“If you’re asking specific questions, like ‘can I make a battle royale’, that’s where you start to see the limits of Portal. Ultimately you can’t. Portal is not a map editor, it’s not a level editor – it’s an experience editor that allows you to change the gameplay in very small ways.”

While this may not be what some Battlefield fans were hoping to hear, Ripple Effect seems to already have their own idea of what battle royale could look like within Battlefield with the third and final mode in Battlefield 2042, Hazard Zone, though all we currently know about it is the name. We’ll just have to wait and see for more information as we get closer to launch.
