PlayStation 4: 'We will probably be last to announce something,' says Sony

Sony will "probably be the last to announce something" regarding next-generation consoles, PlayStation France CEO Philippe Cardone has been quoted as saying.

According to translation of a Le Point interview (via OPM), the Sony exec apparently claims the firm's under "less pressure" to launch new hardware compared to rival Nintendo, which is "pressed for time" due to Wii's decline.

"It's true that there are many rumours, but I couldn't tell you anything," he said. "The Wii is pressed for time because it is in decline. In our case, we have a lot less pressure. We were the last to leave the PS3, we will probably be the last to announce something."

In recent weeks there have been plenty of rumours that the PlayStation 4 will feature at this year's E3 in June, especially with Microsoft seemingly ramping up its Xbox 720 plans.
According to multiple reports, Microsoft is planning to showcase its next-generation Xbox at this year's Los Angeles expo, with the public supposedly getting their hands on the console in late 2013.

Sony's top brass have previously been quoted as indicating that allowing Microsoft to get the jump on the PlayStation 4 with its next console would be an "undesirable" situation for Sony, but that's certainly not the noise coming out of the platform holder this month.

Quizzed on PS4 reports in January, Sony Computer Entertainment chairman Kaz Hirai backed up SCE president Andrew House's comments to CVG, claiming Sony is "not making any announcements at E3" regarding PS4.

"I've always said a ten-year life cycle for PS3, and there is no reason to go away from that," he said.

well if they do plan on doing this, then lets hope PS4 is better than any other. this is what i'm hoping for 720, and i hope they aren't rushing anything just to get a console with lots of room for improvement...

Slam I definitely do not want to see the PS4 or Xbox 720 come out anytime soon. There is just to much to do on them right now with everything being added to make them better for the gaming community. Hopefully these systems are not released to the public until about 2014-2017.

I want them to come out within the next year or too, 2017 would be way too late... there will be 4D gaming by then :D

Jorge28 I will say 2 more years for "Xbox 720" and 3 for PS4. Why? Because as you can see PS3 was released one year later (in North America) which means PS3 has one year in advantage. "Xbox 720" needs to be released with Blu-Ray disc compatibly (ASAP), more graphics and 3D. On the other hand, PS4 just with more graphics and 3D. I just hope that "Xbox 720" will not fail like the Xbox 360 in their first year. I'm talking about the Red Ring of Death. Other thing I think is coming to PS4 is a paid subscription for PSN just like Xbox Live.

I hate 3D. All it does it damage your sight and impair you from playing for more than an hour.

I think PS3 users should get a paid subscription only if Sony will then actually spend that money towards making the experience and performance better. I've never liked the playstation ( apart from the first one xD ) because of that retarded "dashboard". In my opinion, that is the most cluttered interface I've ever seen.
