Rumour: Microsoft Points to be scrapped by end of 2012

4.3
The Microsoft’s Points system, used for Xbox Live Marketplace and other Microsoft marketplaces, is set to be abolished by the end of the year, according to a Inside Mobile Apps report. The site reckons that local, real-world currency will replace points. Microsoft only uses real-life money for when games are bought from Games on Demand, although the option is available to also buy them with Microsoft Points.

Microsoft Points has been around the release of Xbox 360 in 2005, and has also been around for other storefronts including Zune Marketplace, Games for Windows Live and Windows Phone 7.

My Opinion, This will not happen, It will cause too much problems between account thefts and people getting there credit cards used.

I'd rather pay with a credit card than always having extra points left that i cant use.

However, I think they should still have prepaid cards if they do get rid of points.

yes i agree with not everybody having a credit card, but in a report from microsoft they have 44 million xbox live uses with resisted cards, also in the report he went on to say if they lose customers due to the payment system its ok, as they still have the 44 million customers with cards, willing 2 buy from xbox live

sounds pig headed and greedy.

Identity Theft aaahh I highly doubt Microsoft would get as f'ed up as the PSN did because Microsoft takes there online very seriously I mean we pay for it so they have to. No one has properly mastered the crack to there pre paid cards so they know how to protect there network very highly.

And they usually hire most hackers (once released from jail) because they take security very highly so i really doubt you have anything to worry about.

But the main reason this is pissing me off though is MONEY again because they have the power to charge as much as they want now. What I mean is if it cost 20pounds it will cost that and not 2000microsoft points that cost you 15pounds to buy.

But in terms of security you have more chance getting the lottery numbers right each weekend than microsoft getting hacked and your credit card (that i bet your mum owns) being picked out and used fraduently.

This would be a terrible idea. No way I will entrust Microsoft with my credit card info.
