Rumour: Microsoft Points to be scrapped by end of 2012

4.3
The Microsoft’s Points system, used for Xbox Live Marketplace and other Microsoft marketplaces, is set to be abolished by the end of the year, according to a Inside Mobile Apps report. The site reckons that local, real-world currency will replace points. Microsoft only uses real-life money for when games are bought from Games on Demand, although the option is available to also buy them with Microsoft Points.

Microsoft Points has been around the release of Xbox 360 in 2005, and has also been around for other storefronts including Zune Marketplace, Games for Windows Live and Windows Phone 7.

There will be less scams but well see "if" this happens. Maybe the 360 marketplace will go down and have to go back to msp. Who knows?

So are the tens of thousands of microsoft points on my account going to become invalid? or will they transfer over with some new system Microsoft is concocting.

I love these comments about, "oh, i'm good as long as i dont have to use a credit card." Time to grow up. The world is changing and no-one wants to have to buy these Bull5hit point cards anymore. You want to buy an M-rated game, than go ahead, you should also be driving and using your own credit card too by now. Congratulations, You have all successfully tricked microsoft into thinking the highest population of gamers are in the age group of 17+. Stop complaining, you brought this upon yourselves.
