Microsoft refunds victim of Xbox Live phishing scam

4.6
Microsoft has refunded an Xbox Live user who hit headlines this week for discovering she was the victim of an overseas phishing scam.

The user in question explained that her account was compromised on multiple occasions and used to purchase 1,000s of Microsoft Points, despite Microsoft having insisted the account had been locked.
She managed to work out that her account had been sold to a Polish Xbox gamer on a website called Tradetang, where 1,000s of Xbox Live accounts with large numbers of illegally purchased points attached to them were up for sale.

"While we do not ordinarily comment on specific cases, Microsoft can confirm that the account in question has been reinstated to its rightful owner and all unauthorized charges are being refunded in full," Microsoft has told Kotaku.

It also told the site: "The online safety of Xbox Live members remains of the utmost importance, which is why we consistently take measures to protect Xbox Live against ever-changing threats.

"However, we are aware that a handful of customers have experienced problems getting their accounts restored once they've reported an issue. We are working directly with those customers to restore their accounts as soon as possible and are reviewing our processes to ensure a positive customer support experience."

Despite growing concerns over much-talked-about Xbox Live account theft, Microsoft maintains "that there has been no breach to the security of our Xbox LIVE service."

-TRiiXxy- Microsoft should NOT refund anyone if your stupid enough to give out your details or try and exploit free msp or free live on fake sites then thats their faults! :L

Yes they should. Look, i recently got my account hacked. It had 6750msp on it, and 3 months gold and a shitload on download history. However, i NEVER gave out my details to ANYONE, and still - it got hacked. People who haven't done anything wrong should be refunded. I'm not stupid, and i don't have a keylogger or anything that can log my password on my pc.

your a moron thats not what we are saying if its legit Hacked which many people seem to not understand what that means then they shld be compensated

Skruffy This is some serious bullsh*t. Microsoft refunds one person out of thousands, even millions that have had their account jacked? unbelievable. A buddy of mine was jacked, and had to pay off like $60 worth of msp, and a year long, because some 10 year old kid bought it on his account, yet microsoft just said, fu*k off, its your problem

Really? I have been refunded by microsoft twice.
They are not as bad as you make out.

I got refunded when i was foolish enough to give my details to a phishing website.
(this was about 3-4 years ago and i didn't have a clue)
