Sony has over 25 PS5 games in development

Sony Interactive Entertainment has said there are currently over 25 first-party PlayStation 5 games in development.

Former Guerrilla Games head Hermen Hulst, who currently serves as PlayStation Studios boss, revealed the figure in a new Wired feature.

While Sony is known to be working on sequels including Horizon Forbidden West, God of War Ragnarök and Gran Turismo 7, Hulst told the publication that nearly half of the first-party projects in development are entirely new IP.

“There’s an incredible amount of variety originating from different regions,” he said. “Big, small, different genres.”

Sony said in March that it was funding an original IP from a AAA start-up studio established by former Stadia games boss Jade Raymond, and in April it announced it had signed an original multiplayer project from Firewalk, a new studio founded by Bungie veterans.

Hulst recently told GamesIndsutry.biz that he’s “very interested” in creating a diverse slate of titles.

“I think that the games that we make are as distinct and diverse as they can be,” he said. “From Sackboy to Astro Bot to Dreams to these kind of games that you’re referring to, like The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghosts of Tsushima. And you can bet that we will carry on making these games, because they are the heart and soul of what we do here at PlayStation studios.

“But at the same time, we are just as committed to making these quality experiences as we are to experimentation and to coming up with fresh ideas.”

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan claimed in April that PS5 would eventually be home to more exclusive games than any previous PlayStation console.
