Importance of Xbox 720/PS4 graphics jump

4.7
We’re just a few days away from 2012, which could give us a taste of what the Xbox 720 will include thanks to a possible unveil next year, if current web rumors are anything to go by. The chances of the Xbox 720 being released in 2012 is slim to none in our opinion, although more leaks and rumors are surfacing as we get nearer to a release date.

One popular concept design website showcased a “next Xbox” design that could be, and can be seen in an earlier article. The images are nothing like the radical designs we’ve seen in the past, and some say they look a lot like the current Xbox 360. You’d expect the hardware to jump considerably after so many years, and it does with this concept design including a 2TB hard drive, GPS, a GPU with 8-cores and following some of the latest rumors, a built in webcam that could be used for Kinect type gaming as standard.

The debate that never seems to end with console gaming tends to be one of gameplay vs. graphics, and while some of us want both, others feel that gameplay is more important than graphics and vice versa. Enhancements like giving every GTA 5/6 pedestrian unique mentalities would be possible with next-gen hardware, although it’s fair to say with the next-generation we’d expect a big graphics jump, and for us this is more important when playing games in 2012/2013/2014, we want ultra real graphics and gameplay thanks to the leaps in technology since the release of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PS3.

We must also remember that the next-gen consoles have to last much longer than PCs in graphics terms, so seasoned gamers expect revolutionary graphics and maybe much more than current PC hardware thanks to partnerships with manufactures. This task would be harder thanks to the time it takes to launch a new console, although the machine is dedicated for gaming, which gives a massive advantage.

In the last year we’ve seen more and more YouTube videos trying to show what the Xbox 720 and PS4 graphics would look like, and this is mostly done by using PCs that have the latest processor and graphics hardware, which could well be the standard for the upcoming console hardware. You can see a video below this article, and we’d love to hear what you think about graphics like this rendered in real time (NOT pre-rendered cutscenes), imagine gameplay like this on the next-gen console.

How important will graphics be to you when buying the PS4 or Xbox 720 (as it’s commonly known)?

Refllex Hopefully it wont be as expensive because of the new graphics cards.

I hope it is not, I am mostly a PC Gamer but when I play Xbox it is to play with friends, if the price Spikes because if a new graphics cards are implemented it would suck, I have a high end PC, but the Xbox I don't think is worth it to keep buying, Just my opinion...

iTRu3_Vengeance Xbox and Playstation will never have the same graphics as a PC.
If they're using technology from today, then the PC components will be years ahead in a few years time as they are at the moment.

PC's graphics are always upgrading. For xbox and ps3 they'll be using ones from the near future and not next year, as it would cost so much more.
If they want price to be cheaper, it'll be components used from today.

While this is true it dosent mattter because most console games are just ported over to the pc so they dont see any better then consoles do ^_^

Youre wrong. Ever opened up an xbox 360? Same parts as a windows 95 pc.

Yes I have, and Windows 95 is beyond old.
The components in there aren't the best. They could be better.
For the next xbox they'll be using components from today and not next year. They may be able to get a discount of some sort but they wont be better than a PC, nor will it be the same as a PC.

^ thanks for the backup there :D ..

anyway, don't forget the prices you guys are basing graphics cards off of is inc. store and brand mark up. you could easily knock 30% off straight away. and also, with such a big deal and the numbers of concoles to be sold, i'm pretty sure microsoft/sony could get a pretty good deal of any card they want...

Agreed these are how graphics are going to look like for PC in 2013 not Xbox or PS3 it will cost to much for consoles and for those who say "This isn't next gen" yea it is this is rendering in real time the amount of quallity you see here they are putting into works.

Jamy Lol @ people thinking graphics will be this good on the PS4/Xbox 720 keep dreaming this is running on 3! GTX580's, one standalone GTX580 cost's about 350 Pounds on it's own now they are just the graphics cards then you have to take in account of the Motherboard,CPU,HDD Etc that will cost over 1000 pounds easily Sony's and Microsoft's consumer market is Young gamer's and adults like myself and the price of these consoles they want to be about 350 Pounds it's never going to happen.
thing is mate its quite a while off and well it will come down it price and will definetly come own in price when it is mass produced so erm ye i guess it will!

In the space of a year it will come down in price by maybe 100 Pounds still then you are looking at 3 GTX580's costing 600 Pounds and then you have to add on the Motherboard,CPU,HDD and the GTX580 is mass produced now.

SteelSeries The new Xbox/PS3.etc will still have worse graphics than a PC. Never going to change, PC > Consoles

Yes and no. It will have graphics similar to the high end PCs at that time. However, after 2 or 3 years they will be outdated .. yes.

But unless they're a serious gamer or have a lot of money, people don't just constantly buy the latest gaming computer/components.

In my opinion, the PC is best for offline games that have the possibility for some amazing graphics at native 1080p. Not so much for online games.

That's what I think, feel free to have a different opinion as long as you show me the same courtesy.
