Minecraft Dungeons is receiving its own arcade cabinet

Dungeon crawler Minecraft Dungeons is coming to its own arcade cabinet.

In a post on the blocky blockbuster’s website, Mojang’s Per Landin said that the company had teamed up with Play Mechanix to create a cab for the game, resulting in the imaginatively-named Minecraft Dungeons Arcade. The release comes with nine levels, with players having three actions at their disposal – Melee, Dodge, and Range.

Another tweak is that players receive physical cards to record changes to their character – better weapons, new skins by the sounds of things – with 60 cards to collect.

This is being launched later in the year, with a number of cabinets currently out and about in North America for testing.

“If you take a step back, you can see the similarities between the two, but when you take a step into [a consumer] game, it’s like a waltz,” Play Mechanix creative director Will Carlin said.

““An arcade game on the other hand is some kind of super break-dancing speed experience – it’s about the intensity of the moment, and surviving as long as possible – an intense burst of fun!”

He continued: “My advice is to use every button that’s on that control panel to survive,” Will tells me. “It’s not just hack and slash – there’s strategy in there. If you want to get the most out of your play, you’ll want to use all the possible abilities the player has available.”

Minecraft Dungeons launched for PC, Switch, PS4, Xbox One back in May 2020 – before coming to Xbox Series X/S – and to date has sold more than 10 million copies.
