Instructions on how to block Xbox Dashboard ads pop up online

4.7
The new update to the Xbox 360 Dashboard has ads, and while you may feel there is nothing you can do but just sit there and suck it up, Reddit has found a way for you to get rid of the ads – at least until Microsoft fixes it to where you can’t.According to site user Absurdlyobfuscated, here is what you need to do in order to be ad-free:

  • Sign up for an OpenDNS account (it’s free).
  • Add a network for your current IP address.
  • Go to Advanced Settings and next to ‘Domain Typos’, check the box ‘Enable typo correction’ if it’s not already checked and apply.
  • Got to Web Content Filtering settings and set the filtering level to ‘None’, and under ‘Manage individual domains’, put rad.msn.com and select ‘Always block’ and then click ‘Add domain’. Screenshot.
  • On your Xbox, go to System Settings -> Network Settings -> (your connection) -> Configure Network -> DNS settings -> Manual, and enter the OpenDNS IP addresses for the primary and secondary DNS servers: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.
  • You may need to clear your hard drive cache before ads disappear entirely: System Settings -> Storage -> Hard Drive -> press Y -> Clear System Cache (note that you’ll have to re-download any title updates for any games you play after doing this).
  • No longer pay to be advertised to.

bmadden At least they're small boxes not huge ones, meaning it dont bother me as much..
They're small but they on every section of the dashboard now, and they for non-xbox items like cars and anti-perspiration products, waste of space that could be put to better use for actual xbox related marketing. :sigh:

Zswizzzy ads sometimes bother, but again sometimes they show me something new i might like.
I don't mind ads for xbox games, but ads for completely unrelated xbox items like lynx deodorants are a stain on the dashboard, and shouldn't be there for gold members.

The ads don't really bug me too much. As much as I would like them gone I'm not willing to go through the work to get rid of them.

    iJarH3ad Free user = ads.

Members = no ads, because we pay every month.

They put ads in there for members and free user... that shows.. that Microsoft is a greedy company!

    You just figured that out?

Ehh there getting millions to put an add that nobody looks at or even hears it. There's no problem with the adds really. They don't have sound and there a little square. There getting millions for it and it doesn't affect people like surveys or the adds at thetechgame.org where it slows down everything. So yea they are greedy but hey everyone would do the same for free millions xd.
