Stadia version of Terraria back on after dev account is unbanned

Re-Logic, the developer of popular action-adventure sandbox game Terraria, has u-turned on its decision to cancel a Stadia port of the game.

Earlier this month the independent developer claimed that it would no longer support any of Google’s platforms, after the developer’s Google account was disabled, allegedly without explanation.

Founder Andrew Spinks claimed that after 3 weeks of attempting to resolve the issue he would cancel Terraria for Stadia because “I can take this no other way than you deciding to burn this bridge.”

Spinks tweeted: “I will not be involved with a corporation that values their customers and partners so little. Doing business with you is a liability.”

According to Re-Logic, it had received an email warning it of a service violation on its YouTube channel and soon after the entire associated Google was disabled. It had not uploaded a public video to YouTube for three months, it said.

Now the developer has said the Stadia version is back on, after Google finally reinstated its account and related services such as YouTube and Gmail.

“As you may have noticed, we had a ton of issues to kick off the year stemming from the locking-down of [Andrew ‘Redigit’ Spinks’] entire Google account in early January,” the developer said.

“After a month of pushing (and with the immense support of our fans), Google finally reached out and was able to provide a lot of transparency around the situation and to restore access to all of our accounts.

“Due to the hard work the Stadia team has put in – as well as our partners at 505 Games – we have decided that we will allow the upcoming launch Terraria on Google Stadia to proceed.”

The Terraria Stadia build is currently at Google for certification review, Re-Logic said.

As of March 2020, Terraria had sold 30 million copies across PC, consoles and mobile, according to its developer.

YouTube’s Twitter support account did reply to the Terraria developer in January, advising it to follow steps listed on its website. However, the developer claimed this didn’t help.
