You Think You Want a CoD4 Remake, But You Don’t – Treyarch

4.4
Recently, David Vonderhaar, Game Design Director at Treyarch, opened up a dialogue with fans revealing what kind of thinking goes into developing a Call of Duty game.

It goes without saying that the Call of Duty franchise has millions of players who play online, 0ver 30 million, to be more accurate. With as much praise as these developers are receiving for building such a popular game, there is most likely an equal if not greater amount of criticism they must face every day. With this many CoD fans, there is bound to be more than a few who are likely to share what they think the game should be like, legitimate or not, in an extremely vocal matter, negative or positive. Vonderhaar, who recently directed last year’s Black Ops, admits that when building a CoD game, it takes much more than just implementing what the fans want.

Vonderhaar put it very nicely while quoting Henry Ford: “If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.” Simply put, fans don’t always know exactly what they want. It’s the job of developers to figure out precisely what they are trying to express. Vonderhaar states, “I always ask you what you want and the problems you have so I can always put in context. And I always will.” He continued, “if we aren’t trying every day to give you the thing you don’t yet know you want, then I don’t deserve this job.” It sounds like a daunting task, but Vonderhaar believes in innovation.

If we are to be completely honest here, we know what a good number of Call of Duty fans always “say” they want the “next” CoD to be like: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. “COD4 was a great game; we stand on the shoulders of giants. Some of you want to relive that,” said Vonderhaar. However, he truthfully added that “it would be neither innovation or evolution.” It can be speculated that the reason why fans request such a thing is because for many, CoD4 was their “first” CoD experience. Your first experience in almost anything tends to be the most memorable. However, Voderhaar reminds us that “you can make new ‘firsts’ and if don’t go for that as hard as possible then we shouldn’t be here.”

Treyarch should stick to zombies. They should make the campaign about killing zombies.

yeah a lot of people want a new cod4 and more like cod4 better than any but to be honest Treyarch is really only memorable for their zombies so if you would ask me i say lets have Treyarch make a Call of Duty: Zombies

So what if cod4 was a memorable game, i enjoyed it. But i dnt see why they cnt build upon the game he states that their well be no evolutio of the game and/or series but they should the other cods were good but this one was jst remarkable and deff. a great game that earned all its rep.

ok im just gonna make this clear the graphics dont actually matter anyone can put together a 3d design and put a bunch of colors onto it yeah but it takes a true develouper to actually sit there test the games coding to the end of the game fix problems automaticly for noob and elite players and not make the game almost impossibal to play trayarch and all new game develupers are failing at the most importent thing it takes to making a game the most memberable games known to man are the 12 bit games like the original zelda there even remaking zelda ocarina of time and you know why? because they made a game and made it good graphics and all graphics do not actually matter in video games the only thing there really good for is to make it easier to see the entire game without graphics we wouldnt be able to see stuff but it doesnt matter if you cant actually play the game your self trayarch should get out of the video game buisness and stop brainwashing people with comercials ads and even cars its really pathetic that black ops turned out like that specialy when modern day technolagy has advanced majorly since call of duty 4 call of duty should stop milking the cash cow and come out with a call of duty every two years to give time to make the game better if you send a game out to quick its just gonna turn out bad

TTG_Crysis The reason everyone liked CoD 4 so much was the fact that it was CoD 4. Everything was so simple and easy that it really didn't take an extreme amount of skill to master online tactics. It was a simple game yet thee best CoD there was, and ever will be. You didnt have pro perks, crazy kill streaks, crazy gun skills, and more weird and complex things that these companies tried to master but couldnt. The reason CoD 4 will always be the best because it was literally a perfrect game out of the box(Besides Hacks and Mods). Everything was fairly balanced and nothing was to complex, either way there was alaways a way to kill someone fairly. You didnt't have to worry about much either rather than ranking up and unlocking things. Also. it was thee first great CoD, the first TRUE online expirience that has defined the series recently and will still prosper. The only reason that the CoDs keep making more and more money is that you can't play the same game for 5 years straight, the mind mentally desires new content to keep it fresh with information, therefor thats why we keep buying these CoDs.
Treyarch doesnt make bad games, they just try to make the series better, by improving upon the set point(CoD 4) as all CoDs attempt to do. So no flaming, there are both great companies who make good games.

I prefer CoD 2 over these new ones. Nobody ever really played it online on xbox so nobody uses it comparrison even though it is one of the greatest CoD's up to par with Call of Duty 4.

I started reading comments to see what people are thinking about this idea, unfortunately I found a bunch of stupid comments on which CoD is better, IW vs 3arc and how Black ops was a huge disappointment, in fact these comments were the biggest disappointment :P
