IO Interactive may have wrapped up the Hitman trilogy, but Hitman 3 is still going to be new content via DLC down the line.
Hitman 3 is a huge success for the team at IO Interactive. It also represents the end of the current trilogy and a chance for the studio to move onto another property. You may have heard of it. I think it’s something called James Bond? I don’t know, sounds weird. Anyways, just because IOI is starting work on a new IP that doesn’t mean they’re completing leaving Hitman behind. In fact, today the team confirmed in an interview with The Gamer, that fans should expect DLC somewhere down the line.
Executive producer Forest Swartout Large said that the team is “continuously working on Hitman” and that they’re always looking at what’s next for the series. This, of course, makes sense. After all, we knew the team was staffing up to help with development on the James Bond game. After all, they’re creating their own version of the classic character whole cloth. Given how massive that IP is, they’re going to need a good-sized team.
However, this news confirms that the studio will keep part of their team on the Hitman franchise. That doesn’t necessarily mean that they’ll alternate between Hitman and Bond releases, but it does mean we’re getting DLC for Hitman 3. Large didn’t have a firm definition of what that will be in the interview but did say that they’ll be looking to maps from the entire series for inspiration. Personally, I can’t wait to see what they do next with Sapienza. It’s such a great map, after all. And I will always do new Escalations there if they pop up.
Of course, we don’t know when any of this DLC will actually release. That said, Hitman 3 just came out, so expect to wait at least a month or two. For now, just enjoy the excellent end to the trilogy.
