The Epic Games Store’s next free title has been announced

Dandara: Trials of Fear Edition, a 2D metroidvania platformer from developer Long Hat House and publisher Raw Fury, will be free to download from January 28 until February 4.

It will replace Stardock Entertainment’s interstellar strategy game Galactic Civilizations III, which normally costs £30.99 but is currently free to download until January 28.

The Epic Games Store’s free games promotion has seen it give away titles on a weekly basis since the storefront launched in December 2018. It also gave away 15 free games over the Christmas period, with one title offered every day from December 17-31.

Earlier in January Epic Games announced that it had acquired the Cary Towne Center shopping mall in North Carolina, which it will transform into its new headquarters.

It also confirmed the acquisition of Rad Game Tools, the game development tools maker behind the Bink video codec, Oodle data compression and Telemetry performance visualisation system.

Playdead’s next game is a third-person open-world sci-fi adventure “set in a remote corner of the universe”, built with Unreal Engine and published by Epic Games, job adverts on the Limbo and Inside studio’s website have revealed.
