As spotted by Twitter user IdleSloth, both retailers Shopitree and GSShop are listing Mass Effect: Legendary Edition for release on March 12. In its announcement, EA said the remater collection would release simply in “2021”.
Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will be released for consoles and PC. The three-game collection will include all DLC from the original versions, BioWare said in November, and various graphical improvements such as 4K Ultra HD textures, better character models and new effects.
“We’ve heard (for years!) your requests for a Mass Effect remaster, so we’re super happy to finally reveal that we’ve been working on a remastered edition of the Mass Effect trilogy,” BioWare’s then-GM Casey Hudson said at the time.
“Our goal was not to remake or reimagine the original games, but to modernize the experience so that fans and new players can experience the original work in its best possible form.
“It’s been amazing to see the adventures of Commander Shepard take on new life in super-sharp resolution, faster framerates, and beautiful visual enhancements.”
BioWare also announced last year that an original Mass Effect title has started development. BioWare confirmed that the “next chapter of the Mass Effect universe” is being made by a “veteran team” at the company.
Project director Mike Gamble, who’s tasked with envisioning the future of the Mass Effect franchise, introduced several team members on Twitter following the release of the first Mass Effect 4 teaser trailer in December.
Dusty Everman, principal narrative designer for the next Mass Effect, and creative director Parrish Ley, both rejoined BioWare this year to work on the series.
Gamble also singled out Brenon Holmes, a 20-year BioWare veteran and producer working on Mass Effect Legendary Edition too.
