343 Says Big Halo Infinite Delay Will Be Worth the Wait

3.7
Halo Infinite is one of the bigger game delays in 2020 since it was supposed to be a launch title for the Xbox Series X. Despite the reception to the Halo Infinite gameplay demo from July's Xbox Games Event, the game still retains a major following even after being delayed to fall 2021.

343 Industries had shared some details about Halo Infinite's delay on the last Halo Waypoint post from December 17. The post itself provided updates to various games, products, esports, and more to the Halo community before wishing them happy holidays. To close out the post, 343 Industries' studio head Bonnie Ross wanted to share an update with the community about Halo Infinite's delay and its continued development.

Ross explained how turbulent 2020 has been for everyone at 343, but that it didn't stop them from continuing work on the company's products, especially for Halo Infinite's development. Ross touched on how the company's aware that players were shocked to hear of the game's recent delay to fall 2021. But she said that their patience will be rewarded. She went on to inform the community that the team developing the game is eager to release it but want to make it as best as possible upon release.

Ross continued to state that the development team is making great progress on Halo Infinite and can't wait for players to see it in its completed state, though she didn't provide exact details on what changes players can expect to see since they last saw the 2020 demo. However, she expressed immense gratitude towards the Halo community for being both passionate and supportive during the delay.

2021 will be a big year for the Halo franchise, Ross reiterated, as it will be releasing a lot of new content for fans to enjoy. However, some believe 343 should cancel Halo Infinite's Xbox One version, so the game won't be held back by the console's older hardware. This is partly fueled by the troubled release of Cyberpunk 2077 and the reception to the Halo Infinite demo earlier this year.

Some fans are worried the game will not be as great as it can be if it's made for both current-gen and next-gen consoles. But Ross' update was decidedly positive, and a past interview with Xbox's Aaron Greenberg stated that Halo Infinite's graphic will improve before launch. So there should be an improvement to the graphics in the game's final state over the work-in-progress demo.

For now, it remains to be seen how it's faring until more details are revealed about Halo Infinite's status and launch window leading into next year.

Halo Infinite is slated to launch in fall 2021 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

I do have pretty big expectations as someone who grew up on Halo 3 and then went to cod out of disappointment in the Halo franchise since. So let's hope for the best.
