Fortnite adds 120 FPS support on next-gen consoles

The latest Fortnite update has added 120 FPS support in Battle Royale and Creative modes on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Players with compatible displays can enable the feature by switching on 120 FPS mode in the Fortnite video settings menu.

In order to achieve a consistent framerate, Epic says 120 FPS mode lowers the max resolution on Xbox Series X and PS5 from 4K to 1440p.

It also “slightly reduces” shadow settings, postprocessing and streaming distances, but volumetric clouds, physical rim lighting, and high-quality shaders remain enabled.

120 FPS mode lowers the maximum resolution on Xbox Series S from 1200p to 1080p. It reduces shadow resolution and other settings and disables volumetric clouds too.

Epic has also launched a new limited time mode playlist called The Spy Within. Inspired by popular social deduction game Among Us, it will feature a series of hidden identity games created by members of the Fortnite community.

The Spy Within supports 10 players including two spies and eight agents, who start each round only knowing which team they are on. Spies bid to eliminate agents without revealing their identity, which they need to do before agents completes their objectives.

Epic launched Fortnite Chapter 2 – Season 5 earlier his month, bringing together “the greatest hunters across all realities”. Its Battle Pass challenges players to complete bounties in order to unlock new hunters including The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda, gladiator Menace, flapjack man Mancake, and shapeshifting barbarian warrior Mave.

God of War’s Kratos and Halo’s Master Chief have also been added to the game as purchasable skins as part of the Gaming Legends series.

A $10 monthly Fortnite subscription service launched alongside Chapter 2 – Season 5. In addition to the current season’s Battle Pass, each month Fortnite Crew subscribers will receive 1,000 V-Bucks and a DLC pack featuring exclusive outfits and accessories.
