Travis Scott’s Fortnite Event Reportedly Grossed $20 Million

“The landscape is changing,” says Epic Games' Phil Rampulla".

Travis Scott has been a popular name for a while, whether you’ve heard of him or not. He made Forbes’ 30 Under 30 in music three years ago, but this year he’s been cropping up in the video game scene, most notably for his live in-game performance in Fortnite. And speaking to Forbes, a source reveals the rough figures that came from that performance.

Travis Scott and Epic Games reportedly spent months discussing the event, eventually settling on a nine-minute set that included four songs, one of those being an all-new single. The event took place earlier this year in April and saw an encore take place the day after the main performance. The main event saw 12.3 million concurrent players join with later figures reported as 27.7 million unique players.

While Travis Scott wasn’t the first to hold an in-game concert within Fortnite, a source told Forbes that the event grossed roughly $20 million, and that’s including merchandise sales. This is apparently much more than what his real-life concerts gross. GamesIndustry.biz details that last year, the artist’s Astroworld tour grossed $1.7 million in a single night, with the full tour bringing in $53.5 million.

Travis Scott’s involvement with video games has continued since, with a collaboration between him and PlayStation being announced in October 2020, revealing that he is now a strategic creative partner for the company. While specifics of the role haven’t been disclosed, he said that he’s “looking forward to being able to showcase everything that Cactus Jack has worked on with Sony and the PlayStation team”. So far we have seen official Travis Scott x PlayStation sneakers revealed, and also a weird unboxing video of the PS5 console that you can watch above.

As for Fortnite, the game’s next season was announced as Fortnite Zero Point and was revealed with a dramatic trailer. A new subscription service has also been revealed. The game is available to play for free on mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X / S.
