FIFA 21 now lets you limit how much you play and spend on FIFA Points

Electronic Arts is launching a new in-game monitoring tool which enables FIFA 21 players to track—and limit—the amount they play and spend.

Accessible through the main menu, FIFA Ultimate Team and Volta Football, “FIFA Playtime is a new suite of tools that enable players to have more control and visibility over how they play”, according to EA.

FIFA Playtime will launch on PC today and on consoles on November 17, Eurogamer reports.

It will track how much time you spend playing FIFA 21 and your spending in FIFA Points, but not in real-world money. This is reportedly due to transactions being handled by the platform holders, who only share with EA how many FIFA Points are purchased.

EA is reportedly due to announce FIFA Playtime as part of a longer-term initiative called the Positive Play Project.

“Play should always be fun, so we’re ramping up the information and tools to help you play on your terms,” the company will say. “Back in June, we rolled out the Positive Play Charter – an updated set of community guidelines designed to make our games and services more inclusive, safe, balanced and fair. This is another step we’re taking to make play more positive.”

FIFA Ultimate Team, which lets users purchase randomised player packs in a bid to assemble a world class squad, has found itself at the centre of the loot box debate amid increased governmental and legal scrutiny of the games industry.

EA is currently facing several class action lawsuits which claim its use of pay-to-win mechanics breach gambling laws.
