PSVR Will Not be Able to Play the PS5 Versions of Games

4.2
It has been confirmed that PS5 versions of games such as Hitman 3 and No Man's Sky will not support PSVR and players will need to purchase the PS4 versions.

There has been some speculation on how PSVR would be handled on the almost released PS5. Whether it was talking about a brand new headset of the PS5 or just how backwords compatability would be handled, the topic has been a little confusing when transitioning to the PS5. Upload VR has cleared the air a bit and confirmed with Sony that PSVR compatible games will only work with the PS4 version and not the PS5 version.

For example, if someone was to purchase the PS5 version of Hitman 3 or No Man’s Sky, they will not have access to either game’s PSVR modes. If they would like to play those titles in VR then they would need to purchase the PS4 version of the game. That version can still be played on the PS5 as long as you snag a PS4 camera adapter. Sony is handing those out for free to current PSVR owners so make sure to pick one up.

This calls into question the future of Virtual Reality on PlayStation consoles. A representative even clarified to Upload VR and stated “We have not announced PS5 titles for PS VR.” I have to imagine that rather than Sony ditching the tech, it is creating a new headset. That link above pointing to the development of a new headset makes me think that the older tech just won’t be able to handle the new generation of VR games. And to be fair, the PSVR released way back in 2016. Virtual Reality has changed a whole lot since then. I mean, we still have to use the move wands that released during the PS3 era!

This really sucks that this is that way. Especially if you buy it for VR.
