GTA 5 to be digital only game?

4.4
Ahead of the reveal of the first GTA V trailer tomorrow, gaming-focused market research and consulting firm Newzoo has speculated that the title will be download only.In a new report covering DLC, pre-owned and digital distribution, which was passed along to IndustryGamers, CEO Peter Warman said: "There are a lot of reasons why publishers are pushing towards digital distribution of triple-A games.

"Speaking out loud might harm the relationship with retail partners, but the benefits have become too large to remain silent about the desire to go completely digital. The ultimate objective being to launch games faster, create continuous revenues on a title and simply to make more money.

"Will retail disappear from the picture? Of course not," he continued. "Retail will always remain an important channel to promote and distribute games. Retail has a strong hand to play when it comes to eyeballs and... boxes make a nice gift.

"Boxed games will not disappear, but what is in the box will. That is why the boxed GTA V version will contain a collectible piece of merchandise and a download code. No disc."

Would you be happy for GTA V to be a download only title, or do you still love having your games on a physical disc?

Tomorrow's debut GTA V trailer should finally reveal the much speculated about setting for the game, which is rumoured to be based on real-world Los Angeles.

This is such a bad idea. If I don't like the game, I want to be able to return it! And not everyone uses online to play games either, so I guess they won't be buying as well....

The graphics would be better if they were on the HDD, plus the game will load faster. But I Don't care which way they put it, Imo if they put it on a code, it's basically futuristic gaming. Like you don't have to use a disc, but a code.

i love this idea.

1) the graphics would be better

2) the time it took to load maps would be vut in half or 75%

3) it cost less to buy from the market place rather then the store

What if you don't have internet and you play Xbox casually?

That's really messed up.

While they charge me tons of more monwy to upgrade to a bigger hard drive. Oh well, I bet it will be easier to pirate the game to.

I'd hate to see more titles going completely digital, as that eliminates any chances of sharing old games w/ friends or reselling outdated games.

I guess it'd be better if bigger HDD's didn't cost so much

The only downfall I can see in this would be the download time. Other than that, I am all for it.

This is a good and bad idea.

Its good because the developers can make the game as detailed as they like without worrying about disc space.

And its bad because they will lose customers due to not everyone having an internet connection or because some people will have the new xbox's with 4GB hard drives, or the old xbox's with the 20GB hard drives with most of the space used up.

They should keep manufacturing it on discs, but maybe release it a bit earlier for people who want to download it.

well not going to lie id be in favor of this idea and if they do this and its successful id expect to see it more and more with different games and id be in favor although it takes away from the originality of a video game this is the future and if you video game evolution in process but this also means no more disc is unreadable or losing cd's but if they do this i think that microsoft should reduce the price of bigger HDD's so you can acquire more space.
